What the law says.

These figures are current as at 1 March 2026 and come from the National Minimum Wage Act and Sectoral Determination 7. We update them every year.

Pay

The minimum wage is R30.23 per hour. If you work 4 hours or less on a day, you must still be paid for 4 hours.

Hours

At most 45 ordinary hours a week. Overtime is paid at 1.5×; Sundays and public holidays more.

Leave

Annual leave, sick leave and family responsibility leave are yours by law.

If it ends

Notice periods and severance follow the law. Your UIF record is what pays out while you look for new work.
