UIF, COIDA, and other household domestic HR terms explained.
UIF
The Unemployment Insurance Fund. You and your worker each contribute 1% of her pay monthly; it pays out if she loses work, falls ill, or goes on maternity leave.
COIDA
The Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, cover if she is injured while working. Households must register too; most never have.
BCEA
The Basic Conditions of Employment Act, the baseline law for hours, leave and notice. It applies to your household whether or not anything is in writing.

National minimum wage
R30.23 per hour from 1 March 2026, reviewed annually every March.
Earned wage access
Drawing part of pay already earned before payday. A worker benefit, no loan, no interest, no debt.
CCMA
The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration, where employment disputes go. Good records protect both sides there.
