A quote is short. These are the whole arc, taken from the customers’ own WhatsApp threads, delays and disagreements included.
Michelle asked for fair wages for her domestic worker. Three months later the same chat had produced a signed contract, a corrected underpayment, and a retrenchment done properly.
Lee-Ann was not confused about the law and not unwilling to follow it. Two weeks later she had two workers on formal contracts. Her own words explain why she could not do it alone.
No smartphone, no street address, limited English, and about 15 years of undocumented service. Seven weeks instead of ten minutes.
Three workers, and one contract she stopped mid-signature because the standard terms did not describe her arrangement. She was right.
The arrangement ended inside a month. It still ended with notice paid, a final wage and a record, which is not what usually happens.
A worker’s side of it. Five draws over three months, what she was quoted each time, and the two times we said no.
Minimum per the National Minimum Wage Act, as at 1 March 2026. Days of 4 hours or less are paid as 4 (the 4-hour rule). Monthly = weekly × 4.33. Guidance, not legal advice.
UIF is 1% + 1% up to the R17,712/month ceiling. You top up your wallet by the 22nd; they are paid on the 25th. Figures as at 1 March 2026.
