If uFiling will not let you register, you can still register by email. A household employer sends the Department of Employment and Labour two completed forms, the UI-8D (registration of a domestic employer) and the UI-19 (the form that lists your worker), with a copy of your ID and proof of your home address dated in the last 3 months. The Department takes one complete application per email and replies with a UF54 letter carrying your UIF reference number. If you would rather not deal with it, AskMandla prepares and submits the forms for you and chases the Department until your number arrives, for R450 once-off.
Common uFiling problems
- The site will not load, times out or logs you out.
- The one-time PIN (OTP) never arrives.
- Your details will not validate, or a red error keeps coming back.
- You registered years ago and cannot get back into the profile.
- Months show as outstanding and the grid will not let you capture the new ones.
None of these stops you registering. They only stop you doing it online.
Registering by email
- Download and complete the UI-8D (application for registration of a domestic employer). Use your own details as the employer.
- Complete the UI-19 for your worker: her name, ID or passport number, start date and monthly pay.
- Attach a copy of your ID and proof of your home address dated in the last 3 months (a utility bill, bank statement or lease). Plain copies are fine.
- Send everything in one email to the Department's new registrations inbox, Newui8registrations@labour.gov.za, with your full name and ID number in the subject line. The Department takes one complete application per email, so do not split the documents across emails.
- Keep the email and follow up if you have no reply after a week or two. The reply comes from a no-reply address, so send follow-ups to the registrations inbox.
When the UF54 letter arrives, it carries your reference number: seven digits, a slash and a check digit. From then on, pay her UIF each month with that number as the payment reference, and keep her declared under it.
If you are already registered but locked out
Do not register again. A second application causes confusion. You need your existing reference number to declare and pay. If you do not know it, the Department can look it up from your ID number.
Having it done for you
register.askmandla.com takes about 10 minutes. We prepare the UI-8D and UI-19, you sign them online, and your registration goes to the Department as soon as your payment clears. If they have not responded within 5 working days we chase, until your reference number arrives. R450 once-off per worker, UIF only. If you are already registered and only need to add your worker, the same form files the UI-19 for you. Details: UIF registration, done for you.
Questions people ask
Can I register my domestic worker for UIF without uFiling?
Yes. Email the completed UI-8D and UI-19, with a copy of your ID and proof of your home address, to the Department's new registrations inbox in one email. Or have AskMandla submit it for you.
How long does UIF registration by email take?
The Department sets the pace. Follow up if you have no reply after a week or two. When AskMandla submits for you, we chase from day 5 until your reference number arrives.
